Brown Sugar and Coconut Scrub
Coconut oil is the base of so many natural beauty products and recipes, and a staple that the Kindd team always have close to hand! Because it is high in fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, it is an extremely nourishing ingredient with great benefits for your skin and hair.
If your skin tends to be dry, this DIY scrub recipe will help to exfoliate and eliminate dead skin, leaving your body feeling deeply nourished and soothed. We recommend that you use this recipe on your body, as coconut oil can be a little too heavy for use on your face.
Here is the easy recipe, and remember that you can divide the proportions of the ingredients if you want to make a smaller batch.
- 1 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of cold-pressed coconut oil
- 8 drops of essential oil of your choice; the following are our personal favourites:
- Citrus essential oil smells great and has antibacterial properties
- Chamomile essential oil is anti-inflammatory and calms skin irritations
- Lavender essential oil is soothing, relaxing and healing.
Please note that you should not use essential oils if you are pregnant.
How to prepare it?
Pop your ingredients into a small bowl. Fill another slightly larger bowl with hot water, and carefully place the smaller bowl inside. Gently stir the ingredients together to combine, until it forms a paste. Be sure not to heat it too much, as this will cause the sugar to dissolve.
Ensure that the mixture has cooled down to room temperature, then massage the mixture onto your body before hopping into the shower or bath. The sugar will act as an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, and the oils will soothe and calm your skin. Not to mention that the mixture smells delightful if, like us, you have a soft spot for the smell of coconut!
Enjoy, and happy bathing!
